Our environmental engagement project for inner-city Nottingham schools, creating new habitat for local bugs and bees

In the run up to our first Green Hustle Festival on June 5th, we put together this fun project for local inner-city schools. Using second-hand palettes and locally grown bamboo and willow from Ecoworks on St Ann’s Allotments, local artist Allan Buxton built seven stunning bug hotels to send to local schools.

Local kids, working together to scavenge the materials which were hidden around their schools, then completed these structures by filling them with bug-friendly habitat material, and filling them with compost, lavender, and pollinator friendly plants and flowers. They also learned all about bees and their habitats via bespoke digital content from bee expert Esther Coles.

The feedback from this project has been brilliant, and we can wait to unveil all of the kids hard work in bringing these beauties to life at the festival.
